Roberto De Zerbi’s Brighton & Hove Albion have iterated that they’re still eying up European qualification, following 3-0 win at Arsenal.

Second-half goals from Julio Enciso, Deniz Undav and Pervis Estupinan saw Brighton stun second-placed Arsenal at Emirates Stadium, London, which in-turn keeps their top-four dreams alive ahead of a decisive trip to Newcastle on Thursday 18 May.

“I’m really pleased with the performance but the season is not finished for us,” commented manager – De Zerbi post-match in North London, as he iterated that a top-four finish is still achievable if they win their four remaining games and results elsewhere miraculously swing in their favour

Brighton head to Tyneside with 58 points from 34 games but De Zerbi iterated that his team need to just keep winning, as he continued: “The 58 points on the table we have are not enough, we are fighting for a big, big target so we have to win more games.”

De Zerbi also acknowledged the improvement since their Coronation Bank Holiday humiliation at home to Everton, as he added: “It had been a very tough week after Monday’s result, but today we showed character and passion, we showed we are serious people.”

The Italian once again refused to accept that his role is an assured position as he concluded: “I have to repeat, I am lucky to be the coach of Brighton. I have a lot of great players.

“We have to improve our mentality so we give our best in every game and every training session, and we have to adapt to playing many games in a row but we are a great team.”

Forward, Danny Welbeck added that he and his teammates had delivered “a great performance,”  done “in the right manner after the Everton result and I think we did that, as a team and a club.”

Welbeck also echoed De Zerbi’s comments about improving in every match and in training but with one eye on Newcastle as he added: “The hard work in training paid off with a great victory. We showed good maturity and game management against an Arsenal side who have got some amazing players.

“It shows the character of the dressing room to come here, play out from the back and be brave on the ball.

“It’s not easy to show that courage so credit to everyone – it’s a great day for the club but everyone is now looking forward to another big match at Newcastle on Thursday and we can’t wait to go. We will dust ourselves down and go again.”
