Mathias Jørgensen has signed a new two-year contract at Brentford until June 2025.

Jørgensen had signed a fresh contract in August 2022 covering this season plus the option to remain at the club for next season, but the defender and club have agreed a new contract which will now see him remain in West London for the next two seasons.

Speaking about Jørgensen’s decision to sign a new contract, Head Coach – Thomas Frank said that he is “very happy” to retain him for two more seasons.

Explaining the decision behind Jørgensen remaining at the club, Frank said: “His ability to seamlessly step into the team and perform to a high level is so impressive,” whilst possessing the ability to be “defensively strong, positions himself well and has quality on the ball.”

Jørgensen is also known to Brentford staff, players and fans by his nickname – Zanka, with Frank applauding the Danish defender’s “fantastic presence on the pitch and in the dressing room.”

Frank also acknowledged the experience of his compatriot as he added: “He has so much experience from playing in different leagues and a lot of international games. He is very level-headed and fully understands his role within the group.”

Jørgensen has scored one goal in 28 appearances for Brentford in all competitions since he joined on a free transfer in August 2021, following a spell at Turkey’s Fenerbahce during which he was loaned out to Fortuna Dusseldorf then Copenhagen.
