Vincent Kompany has signed a new five-year contract to remain as manager of Burnley until June 2028.

Kompany succceeded Sean Dyche as permanent manager in June 2022 and in his first season in charge, he led the Clarets to promotion back to the Premier League after they were relegated at end of last season following a final-day defeat.

The Belgian’s immediate success also saw him crowned the Championship Manager of the Season at the EFL Awards in April 2023, having fought off competition from Middlesbrough’s Michael Carrick and Coventry’s Mark Robins.

Rumours meanwhile linked Kompany to a potential move to Tottenham Hotspur after the North London club sacked Antonio Conte in March, but this renewed commitment is a strong statement of intent on where Kompany’s future lies next season.

Speaking about his decision to stay at Turf Moor, Kompany commented: “Burnley and Turf Moor felt right pretty much from the start – so it also feels right to sign for the next five years.

“Together with the fans we have made Turf Moor a fortress again and continue to look forward to the future and the job of making Burnley better with every step.”

Burnley Chairman, Alan Pace added that the club are “ecstatic” to secure Kompany for five more seasons, whilst iterating that the Belgian  “is the perfect fit for how we all see Burnley Football Club moving forward.”

Reflecting upon Kompany’s impact this season which saw the club lose just one match at home all season and reach the Quarter-Finals of the FA Cup, Pace said: “An extraordinary leader, setting ever higher standards and driving our club to the levels we all want to achieve.”

Burnley will conclude their season at home to Cardiff in a 3pm BST kick-off on Bank Holiday Monday 8 May, after which they will receive the Championship trophy following their dominance which sees them go up as champions.
