2022-23 Sky Bet Championship: Week 46 – Swansea vs West Brom

West Bromwich Albion visit Swansea City looking to keep their Championship play-off dreams alive at Swansea.com Stadium.

Victory could see Swansea finish as high as eighth if Blackburn lose elsewhere, whilst West Brom must win and hope that Sunderland plus Millwall both fail to win elsewhere if they’re to qualify for the play-offs.

Swansea have no fresh injury concerns to report following their 1-1 draw at Hull last weekend.

Steven Benda (knee), Joe Allen (suspension), Liam Walsh (Achilles) and Jay Fulton (knock) remain absent.

West Brom could be without Okay Yokuslu after he suffered a knock during their comeback win against Norwich last weekend.

Tom Rogic (fitness) is a doubt but Nathaniel Chalobah (ankle), Kean Bryan, Dara O’Shea, Martin Kelly (all knee), Grady Diagana (foot), Adam Reach, Matt Phillips (quad) and Daryl Dike (Achilles) remain ruled out.

When is Kick-Off?

Swansea host West Brom in a 3pm BST kick-off on Bank Holiday Monday 8 May at Swansea.com Stadium, live on Sky Sports Arena in the UK.

Stat Attack

  • Swansea are unbeaten in five of their last eight meetings (W3, D2, L3).
  • West Brom have won just one of their last six visits to Swansea (W1, D1, L4).
  • Swansea’s Joel Piroe has scored in two of his last three appearances against West Brom.
  • Ben Cabango has been booked in each of Swansea’s last two home games.
  • John Swift and Jed Wallace have been involved in more league goals than any other West Brom player this season, with six goals and eight assists apiece.

Prediction

Despite seeing their play-off dreams ended at Hull last weekend in a tightly-fought contest, Swansea are unbeaten in eight matches and now have a chance to finish the season on a high with momentum to take into next season.

Russell Martin’s Swans though did make a sluggish start in their draw on Humberside which cost them the win, but I do expect them to be fired up mentally on home turf knowing that they can now interfere with West Brom’s play-off dreams.

Carlos Corberan’s Baggies though need results elsewhere to swing their favour coupled with a win to stand any shot at the play-offs, which should motivate them especially after they fought back to beat Norwich from behind in a dominant but wasteful display where clinical finishing proved key.

Both teams though do feel close in quality having endured chunks of inconsistency yet do have the attacking quality to be higher up the table, so I do feel like this could be a scrappy contest but I do fancy Swansea on home turf to get the win.

Prediction: Swansea 2-1 WBA

Result: Swansea 3-2 WBA
