As the Premier League rang in 2023, Arsenal continued to assert their dominance with an extension of their title lead.

Martin Odegaard provided Arsenal’s second goal in-between goals from Bukayo Saka and Eddie Nketiah, and assisted in Gabriel Martinelli’s strike, as the league leaders ran riot in a 4-2 away victory at Brighton despite Kaoru Mitoma and Evan Ferguson scoring for the Seagulls.

Manchester City slipped seven points behind in second after they were unexpectedly held to a 1-1 draw at home to Everton, as Erling Haaland’s 21st league goal of the season was cancelled out by Demarai Gray’s 64th minute equaliser.

Newcastle’s six-match winning streak grinded to a halt as the third-placed Magpies were frustratingly held to a goalless draw at home to Leeds United.

Marcus Rashford came off the bench to net a 76th minute winner to lift Manchester United up to fourth, following a narrow win at second-bottom Wolves.

Down in the relegation zone, Southampton remain rock-bottom after Joao Palhinha headed in a 88th minute winner for Fulham, who had taken the lead through James Ward-Prowse’s own goal befoe the midfielder equalised for the Saints from a powerful free-kick.

Serge Aurier cancelled out Raheem Sterling’s opening goal as Nottingham Forest fought back to snatch a 1-1 draw at home to Chelsea, which saw Forest climb to third-bottom on goal difference.

West Ham sit just outside of the bottom three on goal difference after suffering a 2-0 defeat against Brentford, courtesy of goals from Ivan Toney and Josh Dasilva.

Elsewhere, two own goals in seven minutes from Wout Faes gifted Liverpool a lucky 2-1 home win over Leicester at Anfield, having initially fallen behind to Kieran Dewsbury-Hall’s fourth minute strike.

First-half goals from Jordan Ayew and Eberechi Eze saw Crystal Palace comfortably defeat Bournemouth in a 2-0 away victory, which ended the Eagles’ two-match losing run.

Finally, second-half goals from Emiliano Buendia and Douglas Luiz saw Aston Villa snatch a surprise 2-0 win at Tottenham Hotspur.
