Arsenal have signed forward, Leandro Trossard from Brighton & Hove Albion in a £27million transfer.
Having failed to sign Mykhailo Mudryk following the Ukrainian’s decision to join Chelsea, Arsenal have swooped for Trossard who expressed his wish to leave Brighton, after he attracted attention from several top Premier League clubs following a strong start to the season.
Arsenal will pay an initial £21m transfer fee to Brighton plus a further £6m in add-ons to take the total transfer cost up to £27m in total, with Trossard having signed a four-year contract with the Premier League leaders.
Speaking about Trossard’s decision to move to the Gunners – who coincidentally made his final appearance for Brighton against Arsenal on New Year’s Eve, manager – Mikel Arteta described him as “a versatile player with high technical ability, intelligence and a great deal of experience in the Premier League and at international level.”
Arteta also iterated that with Gabriel Jesus currently absent due to a knee injury, Trossard “strenghtens our squad” as they chase a first Premier League title since 2003-04 season.
Trossard has scored seven goals and provided two assists in 17 appearances across all competitions for Brighton this season, plus demonstrated his versatility in having played as a forward, winger, attacking midfielder and wing-back across the campaign.
The Belgian therefore leaves Brighton having produced 25 goals in 122 appearances since he joined from Genk in June 2019, during which he made his international football debut for Belgium with five goals in 24 international cap.
Trossard also was part of Belgium’s 2022 FIFA World Cup squad, in which he made substitute appearances against Canada and Morocco but started against Croatia in their unexpected Group F exit.
Having been registered ahead of the lunchtime deadline and will wear shirt number 19, Trossard could make his debut for Arsenal at home to Manchester United live on Sky Sports on Sunday 22 January, in a 4:30pm GMT kick-off at Emirates Stadium.
