Jost Capito has resigned as Team Principal and CEO of Williams F1 after two years at the helm.

Capito first took charge of Williams in September 2020 following Dorilton Capital’s takeover, after Claire Williams and her father, Frank Williams both stepped down from their roles following the Italian Grand Prix that year.

Under Capito’s reign as Team Principal, Williams acquired 31 points in total across 2021 & 22 seasons which included a shock podium finish for George Russell at the controversially wet 2021 Belgian Grand Prix, in which no green flag laps were completed.

Speaking about his decision to stand down from his role, Capito commented: “It has been a huge privilege to lead Williams Racing for the last two seasons and to lay the foundations for the turnaround of this great team. I look forward to watching the team as it continues on its path to future success.”

Dorilton Capital’s Chairman, Matthew Savage added that the company wishes to thank Capito “… for his hard work and dedication as we embarked on a major transformation process to begin the journey of reviving Williams Racing.”

Savage also revealed that Capito had postponed his plans to take retirement in order to take the reins at Williams, although now has been determined as the right time for him to finally step aside.

Williams’ Technical Director, Francois-Xavier Demaison will also leave the team after having joined in March 2021, with Savage thanking Demaison “… for his contribution and wish him all the best for his future as he moves on.”

Capito and Demaison aren’t the only members to leave Williams during the off-season with driver, Nicholas Latifi having also departed the team upon expiry of his contract as Logan Sargeant replaces the Canadian for next season.

Further changes in recent weeks include Mattia Binotto’s resignation as Team Principal of Ferrari and the axing of the Chinese GP from 2023 F1 calendar.
