Williams Appoints Francois-Xavier Demaison as Technical Director

Williams have appointed Francois-Xavier Demaison as Technical Director.

Demaison will take charge of technical operations within the business containing the Design and Aerodynamic functions, although he will also report to CEO, Jost Capito as part of his role.

Speaking on his move to Williams, Demaison said: “I am really looking forward to joining Williams Racing, as they begin an exciting journey to turn their performance around.”

Demaison spent the last decade at Volkswagen Motorsport overseeing their technical development of the ID.R electric race car and achieving records at Pikes Peak and Nurburgring as well as four rallying titles with Polo R WRC vehicle.

On how different he expects the task at Williams to be after a decade with Volkswagen, Demaison commented: “It’s going to be a great challenge, but one that I am eager to start.

“They have a great team of talented people, and I hope I can work with them and the senior management team to help carve out a direction for the future, to help the team achieve its ambitions.”

Capito meanwhile is “delighted” to welcome Demaison (nicknamed FX) to Williams, praising his “technical capabilities” as a key asset as evidenced by Demaison’s sporting successes over the years.

On bringing Demaison into Williams, Capito is confident that his arrival will benefit the team, adding: “Bringing in someone of his calibre to our already experienced technical team will help drive the future direction of our operation and strengthen our team.”

Capito also spoke of Demaison’s sporting knowledge as being key to Williams progress and is excited to see what he contributes to the team, saying: “I have no doubt that his knowledge will contribute to us taking another important step towards our ambitions of winning again.

“At Williams we have an exciting challenge ahead of us, and I look forward to seeing FX contribute as we continue on this journey.”
