Roundup of 2022 F3 post-season testing at Circuito de Jerez, Jerez, Spain.

The test served as a chance for teams to experiment with drivers under consideration for their driver line-ups in 2023 season, which meant a lot of changes compared to the recently finished season as severa rookies also entered the fray looking to impress.

Sessions across all three days were ran across individual morning and afternoon sessions as drivers adapted to new working environments, and specificially the car itself for many looking to make the step up next season whilst those accustomed to the car sought to impress potential new teams.

Now, here is a full roundup of the action across all three days plus overall classification timesheet for each day of testing.

Dry conditions greeted all ten teams on the opening day of the test with Hitech GP’s Gabriele Mini immediately setting the pace with 1m 31.217 just 0.067 seconds ahead of fellow Hitech runner, Sebastian Montoya – who had featured at the Dutch round for Campos as a guest driver.

Campos’ Pepe Marti though was the first driver to dip below the 1m 31.000s barrier but his time was swiftly bettered by ART GP’s Kaylen Frederick, until Mini popped up with 1m 30.500 which eventually was the fastest overall time of the opening day.

Frederick and Marti had to settle for second and third ahead of Zak O’Sullivan and Reece Ushijima, who had switched from Carlin and Van Amersfoort Racing (VAR) to PREMA and Hitech respectively.

Frederick and Mini however produced the first two red flags of the test during the morning session, with Sebastian Montoya, Roberto Faria, Emerson Fittipaldi, Hunter Yeany and Alessandro Famularo also bringing out the red flag on separate occasions.

Dino Beganovic, Rafael Villagomez, Gabriel Borteleto, Leonardo Fornaroli, Famularo, Joel Granfors, Noel Leon and Faria, all set their quickest lap times in the afternoon session – which was topped by Frederick with 1m 31.275 – albeit slower than his best lap from the morning session.

Day Two

O’Sullivan was first to set a serious benchmark time of 1m 30.025 but Trident’s Bartoleto was the first driver to dip below the 90s mark with 1m 29.871, with Marti going close but 0.056s shy in second.

Jenzer’s Taylor Barnard brought out the first red flag of the second day of running with just under one hour completed, yet he was tenth-fastest and somehow managed to stay in that position at end of the morning session and on the overall timesheet.

Faria was the only other driver to bring out the red flag in the morning session as everyone managed to set their quickest lap of the second day before the lunch break, as Bortoleto finished top overall with 1m 29.554 ahead of Marti and O’Sullivan.

The afternoon session saw plenty of high-fuel running amidst two further red flags caused by Barnard whilst Mini also caused a brief stoppage, after he crashed at Turn 10 but he was able to recover to finish the afternoon session on top.

Day Three

A frantic start to the final day of testing, Montoya set the initial pace in the opening half-hour with 1m 30.759, only for Hadrien David to crash at Turn 10 to bring out the red flags.

Bartoleto however soon topped the timesheet after the session resumed as he posted 1m 29.936, only for VAR’s Max Esterson to stop at Turn 14 to cause a second red flag shortly afterwards.

Mini and Colapinto both then went fastest upon the second resumption with the latter’s lap time of 1m 29.617, ultimately putting him fastest from Oliver Goethe and Bartoleto in the overall timesheet as teams primarily focused on pit stop practice before lunch.

Faria and Nicola Marinangeli however caused two further red flags in the morning, which were the last stoppages as the afternoon session ran smoothly without major disruption, albeit topped by Barnard as nobody bettered their best lap times from the morning session.
