Right-back, Danny McNamara has rejoined Charlton Athletic on a free transfer.
McNamara’s return to The Valley comes just two months after he was released by Millwall, having scored twice in 166 appearances across six seasons following his Lions debut in January 2021 in a 2-0 win at Boreham Wood.
His senior debut however came on loan at Welling United where he made nine appearances in his first loan spell away from Millwall, before he went on to enjoy loan stints at Dover Athletic, Havant & Waterlooville, Newport County and St Johnstone – during which he scored once for Dover, Havant & Waterlooville and St Johnstone.
McNamara however began his career with Charlton in their academy from 7-14 year-old before he joined Corinthian, where he was scouted by Millwall.
The 27-year-old has now rejoined Charlton on a two-year contract until June 2028 and is happy to return to his childhood club.
“I’m absolutely delighted to get it done. I started my career here when I was really young, so it holds a special place in my heart and I can’t wait to get going again.
“I know how big of a club Charlton are. I’ve got a lot of family and friends who are Charlton fans – it’s a great community and I’m delighted to be a part of it.
“As soon as I met the manager, I knew it was the right place for me. The ambitions of the club and what he wants to build is very exciting and I want to be a part of that.”
Manager, Nathan Jones added that he is “delighted” to bring McNamara back to the club given his experience at Championship level.
“He’s someone that’s got massive experience of the Championship and knows what it takes to win games. He adds real competition to the right-back area.
“He’s an impressive individual in that he’s a winner, and he wants to achieve – we need those type of characters here.
“As a character, as an athlete, as a player we’re delighted to have him with us and I’m looking forward to working with him.”
