2023-24 Sky Bet Championship: Week 46 – Ipswich vs Huddersfield

Ipswich Town host Huddersfield Town at Portman Road in a blockbuster final-day showdown at opposite ends of the Championship.

Victory or a draw would see Ipswich promoted but they can still go up with a defeat if Leeds lose elsewhere.

Huddersfield meanwhile must win and hope that Birmingham fail to win and Plymouth loses elsewhere if want any chance of staying up, albeit with a massive goal swing in their favour.

Harry Clarke is a doubt for Ipswich after he missed their midweek win at Coventry due to a knee injury.

Brandon Williams (leg) and Janoi Donacien (adductor) remain absent.

Huddersfield have no fresh injury concerns to report after their 1-1 draw against Birmingham last weekend.

Kian Harratt (suspension), Jonathan Hogg (shoulder), Radinio Balker (thigh), Tom Lees, Yuta Nakayama (both knee) and Josh Ruffels (groin) remain absent.

When is Kick-Off?

Ipswich host Huddersfield at Portman Road on Saturday 4 May at 12:30pm BST, live on Sky Sports Main Event.

Stat Attack

  • Ipswich have won one of their last seven league meetings against Huddersfield (W1, D3, L3).
  • Huddersfield have claimed six points in their last five visits to Ipswich (W1, D3, L1).
  • The Terriers have kept clean sheets in their last two trips to Ipswich (W1, D1).
  • Ipswich have used their 4-2-3-1 formation in 49 of their 51 matches in all competitions this season.
  • Huddersfield have scored just one penalty kick all season – which came from Delano Burgzorg in a 1-1 draw at Millwall in mid-December.

Prediction

Although their recent head-to-head form against Huddersfield might make for daunting reading, Ipswich are a much better team now and have promotion in their own hands – especially at home so I do expect them to deliver another strong result.

Huddersfield meanwhile look as good as relegated given that they must win by a large margin and hope that results elsewhere go their way, but they first must show more fight than they mustered against Birmingham and dream the mission impossible by scoring first.

I however don’t see that happening in front of an electric home crowd and frankly, Ipswich should have enough quality to take the win no matter what Huddersfield throw at them.

Prediction: Ipswich 2-0 Huddersfield

Result: Ipswich 2-0 Huddersfield
