Whilst Bristol City were comfortably relegated, Chelsea and Manchester City continued to duel over the title in three dramatic matchweeks packed with twists and turns.
Week 19
Midweek
Aggie Beever Jones, Maika Hamano and Kadeisha Buchanan all found the net as Chelsea cruised past Aston Villa to return to the summit.
Beth Mead and Alessia Russo scored twice apiece either side of Ella Powell’s own-goal as Arsenal thrashed Bristol City 5-0 to stay third.
Weekend
Leila Ouahabi’s first minute goal fired Man City to a 5-0 home win over West Ham in which Khadija Shaw scored twice, before Laura Blindkilde Brown and Jess Park completed the victory to send City back top of the table.
Mead’s brace plus a goal from Russo saw Arsenal keep pace in third with a 3-0 home win over Leicester.
Maya Le Tissier’s injury-time equaliser snatched a 2-2 draw for Manchester United at home to Tottenham, after Melvine Malard had put them ahead only for Bethany England and Jessica Naz to turn the first-half around for Spurs into half-time.
Marie Hobinger struck a 13th minute winner for fifth-placed Liverpool away at Bristol City.
Guro Bergsvand’s 72nd minute own-goal handed Everton a narrow 2-1 victory at Brighton, after Karen Holmgaard’s opening goal had been cancelled out by Tatiana Pinto’s equalising strike.
Week 20
Mary Fowler’s brace plus Amy Rogers’ own-goal and Alex Greenwood’s injury-time header saw Man City win 4-0 away at Bristol City to move six points clear at the summit.
Chelsea’s title hopes took a hit after Gemma Bonner netted an injury-time header to seal a 4-3 home win for Liverpool, during which Erin Cuthbert and Teagan Micah both scored own-goals whilst Beever-Jones scored twice for the Blues.
Isabella Hobson’s header saw the 16 year-old salvage a 1-1 draw for Everton at home to Arsenal, which all-but-ended the Gunners’ title dreams.
Ella Toone netted a 83rd minute winner as Man Utd scraped past Leicester in a scrappy away encounter.
England rescued Tottenham a 1-1 draw at home to Brighton after Elisabeth Terland had put the Seagulls into a 17th minute lead.
Shannon Cooke’s injury-time header rescued West Ham a 1-1 draw at Aston Villa, after Alisha Lehmann had put the Villains on course for a narrow late winner.
Week 21
Stina Blackstenius’ late brace secured third-placed Arsenal a comeback 2-1 win at Man City who had initially led through Lauren Hemp’s 17th minute goal.
Chelsea took advantage of City’s defeat to go top with a 8-0 home triumph over Bristol City as Guro Reiten netted four goals, whilst Beever-Jones scored twice and Sjoke Nusken plus Niamh Charles scored one goal apiece.
Hamano then put the Blues top going into the final day with a 1-0 win away at Tottenham in their final rearranged match.
Jenna Clark’s first-half injury-time goal saw Liverpool scrape a narrow home win to overtake Man Utd for fourth.
Drew Spence and England rescued Tottenham a 2-2 draw at Everton after Sara Holmgaard and Justine Vanhaevermaet had put the Toffees ahead in the opening 15 minutes.
Lehmann netted a 64th minute winner as Aston Villa took a competitive victory at Brighton.
Sophie Howard’s header rescued Leicester a 1-1 draw at West Ham, having fallen behind to Riko Ueki’s goal.
Week 22
Mayra Ramirez’s brace plus goals from Johanna Rytting Kaneryd, Nusken, Melanie Leupolz and Fran Kirby on her final appearance saw Chelsea thrash Man Utd 6-0 away at Old Trafford to become champions
Man City fell short on goal difference despite Lauren Hemp’s 77th winner at Aston Villa in a 2-1 victory, after Mary Fowler’s opening goal was cancelled out by Rachel Daly’s equaliser.
Vivianne Miedema netted on her final appearance for Arsenal in a 5-0 home win over Brighton, during which Alessia Russo scored twice and Frida Maanum also found herself on the scoresheet whilst Jorelyn Carabali struck a 67th minute own-goal.
Leanne Kiernan’s hat-trick and Sophie Romain Haug’s opening goal saw Liverpool thrash Leicester 4-0 to secure fourth.
Late goals from Naz and Spence secured a 3-1 home win for Tottenham over London rivals – West Ham, after England’s fourth minute goal was cancelled out by Ueki.
Katja Snoeijs, Sara Holmgaard, Emma Bissell and Martina Piemonte found the net in a 4-0 away win for Everton at Bristol City.
