2023-24 Premier League: Week 36 – Luton vs Everton

Luton continue to fight for Premier League survival against Everton at Kenilworth Road.

Victory would see Luton climb out of the relegation zone into 17th position until at least Saturday teatime, whilst Everton can stay 15th with a win.

Luton have no fresh injury concerns to report following their defeat at Wolves, as Elijah Adebayo looks to start this game.

Amari’i Bell, Dan Potts, Chiedozie Ogbene (all hamstring), Mads Andersen (calf), Marvelous Nakamba, Jacob Brown (both knee), Issa Kabore (ankle) and Tom Lockyer (illness) remain absent.

Everton could welcome Dominic Calvert-Lewin back into contention after he missed their win over Brentford, having suffered fatigue after he played through illness in their Merseyside derby victory over Liverpool.

Seamus Coleman (groin) and Beto (concussion) could also return but Nathan Patterson (hamstring), Vitaliy Mykolenko (ankle) and Dele Alli (hip) remain absent.

When is Kick-Off?

Luton host Everton at Kenilworth Road on Friday 3 May at 8pm BST, live on Sky Sports in the UK.

Stat Attack

  • Luton won their only previous Premier League meeting against Everton by a 2-1 result away at Goodison Park earlier this season.
  • Everton are visiting Luton at Kenilworth Road for the first time in the Premier League, but have won one of their last eight league visits in the Old First Division (W1, D2, L5).
  • Luton have won both meetings against Everton in all competitions this season by a 2-1 result – albeit at Goodison Park (W2), with the Hatters scoring first in both games.
  • Rob Edwards’ Hatters have conceded first in their last five matches (W1, L4).
  • James Tarkowski has been booked in each of Everton’s last three away matches (D1, L2).

Prediction

Having struggled defensively in recent weeks which again proved costly at Wolves, Luton now need to tighten up but show more of their clinical attacking flair if they want to win this game – although the home crowd will need to play their part in roaring the players on.

Everton meanwhile seem to have had another late-season spurt amidst off-pitch issues but they were pretty wasteful in their win over Brentford, which would of surely finished in a draw if not for Idrissa Gueye’s clinical effort to secure safety.

I however can’t see Everton rolling over here despite having secured safety but Kenilworth Road isn’t exactly one of their favourite grounds based on recent visits, and this is a game which Luton must win and I do fancy them to snatch it in another scrappy clash between these two teams.

Prediction: Luton 2-1 Everton

Result: Luton 1-1 Everton
