Kamarl Grant is pleased to return to his “second home” as he begins a third loan spell at Bromley.
The 23-year-old defender rejoined Bromley from Millwall on Saturday (1 August) for his third loan stint at the Ravens and is pleased to be back at a club which feels like his second home as he spoke to their YouTube channel about his return.
“My second home, not my home, but um, yeah, no I’m happy to be here.”
Grant’s first loan in the second half of the 2023-24 season ended in Bromley’s maiden promotion to the EFL and he is proud to had played a part in that historic campaign.
“Um it was tough. It was an experience that you don’t get often so soon. So um yeah, over the moon for it. I mean it was a good six months and like you said, it was history and the club has made more history since I haven’t been here which is nice.
“But um yeah, no it was a great time and great bunch of players and not much has changed but a lot has changed at the same time. So yeah, I’m happy to be back here.”
He then spent the 2024-25 season at the club on a season-long loan as the Ravens finished 11th in League Two and just four points shy of the last play-off spot, which left him reflecting on the fact that they dropped points but was happy to see them gain promotion to League One at the end of last season.
“I feel like there was points that we would have looked back in that season um and seen where we dropped points where we probably shouldn’t have and could have been closer or higher up in the table, but um credit to the boys that were here last year, were able to do it.
“I was always watching games and it was just nice to see.”
Grant also scored their second goal in a 2-0 EFL debut victory at Harrogate in August 2024, and the 23-year-old quipped that a clean sheet was the most important aspect of that result.
“Yeah it was a good day. Good to you know win clean sheet as we know is important.”
A loan spell at Blackpool in League One followed for Grant in the second half of last season but injury limited him to just three appearances, but he is now relishing a return to the third tier with Bromley.
“It was unfortunate. I mean I went out in the January but my body wasn’t in the greatest position to be honest. Yeah, it was a good experience for the short time that I was there. But yeah, I can’t wait to get going now.
“It’s been so long since I’ve been on the pitch. Missing the feeling of coming back in a changing room when you’ve won a game and all that type of stuff. So yeah, looking forward to it now.”
“There’s nothing more important than playing and winning games. Winning is the most important thing, and it’s a feeling that you don’t get often, and it’s a feeling that you crave for when you are getting it. So I mean, I just miss it and I want it as much as I can.”
Eight members of the 2024-25 squad when Grant was last at Bromley are still with the club and although there has been various changes across the end of his second loan spell, he is still glad to have the same environment.
“Yeah, it’s been good. There’s obviously still a few familiar face, but a lot of the group have changed. It’s still the same environment, still a good group. Yeah. And I’m just happy to be a part of it, and they’ve welcomed me really well.”
Another fresh change for Grant is playing in front of the George Wakeling Stand which was under construction in the 224-25 season, and he is pleased to try and give thanks back to fans for their support by playing in front of them again.
“It looks really nice. The last time I was here it was getting built. So it’d be nice for it to be full and playing in front of them and give back to the fans that have been there from the very start and the ones that have come now.”
Grant also has one simple target in mind as he chases victories although maximising his game time is also a high priority.
“Just to win a lot of football games. Win as many football games as I can and I want to play a lot of football games as well. That’s the most important thing. But no one wants to not win. So I want to win.
