Chelsea have signed midfielder, Jordan Henderson on a free transfer.
Henderson’s arrival comes after Brentford terminated his contract due to a clause of respect between player and club, which allowed him to join Xabi Alonso’s Blues on a two-year contract until June 2028 without Chelsea paying a transfer fee.
“Given the size of the club, the manager, who I have great admiration for, and the quality of the players, this was a huge opportunity I couldn’t turn down,’ commented Henderson on his move to Stamford Bridge.
“I was also so impressed with how much the ownership want Chelsea to be successful and move in the right direction.
“For me, it’s about giving everything every single day, both on and off the field, to help the players around me and the team as much as possible. I’m very excited to get going.”
Henderson began his career at Sunderland where he graduated through their youth academy to score five goals in 79 senior appearances, during which he managed one goal in 13 appearances on loan at Coventry in 2008-09 season.
June 2011 saw him depart Wearside for a 12-year spell at Liverpool where he managed 33 goals in 492 appearances and replaced Steven Gerrard as captain in summer 2015.
Across his stint at Liverpool, Henderson helped the team claim eight titles, including two EFL Cup titles;

Henderson left Liverpool in July 2023 for Saudi Arabia’s Al-Ettifaq where he made just 19 appearances before he joined Ajax six months later and netted one goal in 57 appearances, prior to his return to England last summer.
The 36-year-old represents England at international level with three goals in 91 senior appearances, and was part of the squad which finished third at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
He however missed their last three matches of the tournament due to a wrist injury suffered whilst celebrating their Round of 16 win over Mexico at Estadio Azteca.
