Ipswich hold promotion in their own hands against QPR on the final day of the 2025-26 Sky Bet Championship season.
Victory will be enough to secure automatic promotion for second-placed Ipswich, although a draw or defeat would be enough if Millwall fail to beat Oxford United.
QPR can finish as high as 11th with a win if Swansea, Preston and Bristol City lose and they can overturn a goal difference deficit against the Swans by winning by five goals or more.
Teams
Ipswich have no fresh injury concerns to report following their 2-2 draw at Southampton on Tuesday evening.
David Button (calf), Conor Townsend (ACL) and Ashley Young (hip) remain absent.
QPR could be without Paul Smyth and Richard Kone after the pair suffered knocks during their 3-2 home defeat to Derby last weekend.
Karamoko Dembele, Ziyad Larkeche (both ACL) and Kwame Poku (hamstring) remain sidelined.
When is Kick-Off?
Ipswich host QPR at Portman Road on Saturday 2 May at 12:30pm BST, live on Sky Sports Main Event in the UK.
Stat Attack
- Ipswich have won just two of their last eight meetings against QPR (W2, D2, L4).
- QPR have won one of their last five visits to Ipswich (W1, D2, L2).
- Two of Ipswich’s last three home meetings against QPR ended in a 0-0 draw, whilst the West London visitors won 2-0 in the other clash in October 2018.
- Ipswich have won one of their last five matches (W1, D3, L1).
- QPR are winless in their last five matches (D2, L3).
Prediction
After their physical high-energy draw at Southampton in they came from 2-1 down to eliminate the Saints from final-day contention amidst wasted late chances to win that game, Ipswich now need to regroup and try to wrap up promotion before things get nervy and any fatigue sets in.
QPR though need to take confidence from their performance against Derby and cut out the defensive errors if they’re to end their winless rut, especially with London having one eye on them to cause a surprise and another eye at The Den in hope that Millwall beat Oxford Utd.
My instinct honestly is that we could see something akin to how Bromley got promoted to League One with an away favour from Barnet just two weeks ago and QPR indeed causing a surprise, but Ipswich realistically should have enough quality to snatch this if they’re not too fatigued.
Prediction: Ipswich 2-1 QPR
