2025-26 Sky Bet Championship: Week 46 – Millwall vs Oxford Utd

Millwall chase automatic promotion in a clash against Oxford United on the final day of the 2025-26 Sky Bet Championship season.

Alex Neil’s Lions must win and hope that Ipswich fail to beat QPR in order to snatch second and achieve automatic promotion to the Premier League, which would end their 36-year exile from England’s top-flight.

Oxford Utd are already relegated and guaranteed a 22nd-placed finish irrespective of the result.

Teams

Josh Coburn is a doubt for Millwall after he was substituted in the 10th minute of their 1-1 draw at Leicester, having suffered a knock to his hip.

Alfie Doughty (calf), Joe Bryan (muscle), Billy Mitchell (ankle), Lukas Jensen (Achilles), Dan Kelly (hamstring), Benicio Boaitey-Baker (groin) and Massimo Luongo (knee) remain absent.

Oxford Utd could be without midfielder, Cameron Brannagan after he was substituted in the 19th minute of their 4-1 win at home to Sheffield Wednesday, due to an unspecified injury.

Tyler Goodrham (ankle), Greg Leigh, Przemyslaw Placheta (both hamstring) and Brian de Keersmaecker (shoulder) remain absent.

When is Kick-Off?

Millwall host Oxford Utd at The Den on Saturday 2 May at 12:30pm BST, live on Sky Sports Football in the UK.

Stat Attack

  • Millwall have won just one of their last five league meetings against Oxford Utd (W1, D2, L2)
  • Oxford Utd have claimed seven points from three of their last seven league visits to Millwall (W2, D1, L4).
  • Millwall have failed to score in their last four home matches against Oxford Utd in all competitions (L4), across which they’ve conceded seven goals in total.
  • Camiel Neghli has scored in two of Millwall’s last three matches.
  • Six of Will Lankshear’s 11 league goals for Oxford Utd this season were scored away from home.

Prediction

Having battled back to draw at Leicester in a game which they realistically needed to win given their inferior goal difference, Millwall now need to display urgency and quality early on if they’re to score first and psychologically put Ipswich under pressure and hope QPR do them a favour.

Oxford Utd meanwhile have literally nothing to play for but after a clinically dominant win over a deflated Sheffield Wednesday, they can come into this game with renewed confidence and just enjoy their last Championship match as potential party poopers.

I however do expect Millwall to get the win done routinely and they will just have to hope that QPR does them a favour, but Oxford Utd hopefully can put in a decent performance to be proud of heading into next season.

Prediction: Millwall 2-1 Oxford Utd

Result: Millwall 2-0 Oxford Utd
