Brighton & Hove Albion have recalled Matt O’Riley from his season-long loan at Marseille to boost their squad for the rest of the campaign.
O’Riley had joined Marseille exactly five months ago on a season-long loan from the Seagulls and contributed one goal plus six assists across 1,284 total minutes in all competitions for the French club, with his only goal having came in a 3-0 Ligue 1 victory at Metz in October 2025.
Brighton however have recalled the 25-year-old English-Danish midfielder to boost Fabian Hurzeler’s midfield options for the remainder of the season following Brajan Gruda’s loan switch to RB Leipzig, as the Seagulls target a FA Cup run plus potential European qualification via the Premier League.
Addressing his decision to recall O’Riley, Hurzeler commented: “We’re pleased to welcome Matt back to the club. We know all about his qualities, and I have no doubt he will settle back into the group very quickly.
“He’s had a good spell with Marseille, playing regular domestic football and in the Champions League, and we believe he can positively impact the team in the second half of the season.”
