Golfer, Rory McIlroy has been crowned 2025 BBC Sports Personality after a three-way final vote against Ellie Kildunne and Lando Norris.

McIlroy’s win came after he completed Golf’s Grand Slam with his Masters success and helped Team Europe win the Ryder Cup.

His victory also marked the first time that a male athlete has won BBC Sports Personality of the Year since seven-time F1 champion, Lewis Hamilton in 2020.

England Rugby’s hero, Kildunne finished second after she scored five tries as the Red Roses claimed the Women’s Rugby Union World Cup on home soil.

2025 F1 World Champion, Norris finished third in the public vote in a year which saw him win seven races en-route to his first title, including the Monaco and British Grands Prix.

In a change of the format which saw three nominees eliminated after the opening phase of voting, England Lionesses’ Hannah Hampton and Chloe Kelly missed out alongside Darts’ Luke Littler.

Michelle Agyemang won Young Sports Personality of the Year after a breakthrough year saw her called up to England’s senior squad in April, and scored on her debut in a UEFA Women’s Nations League victory over Belgium.

Agyemang was then named in the Lionesses’ UEFA Women’s Euro squad where she scored the equalising goals in their Quarter-Final then Semi-Final victories over Sweden and Italy respectively, as the Lionesses defended their title in Switzerland.

Sarina Wiegman was named Coach of the Year after she oversaw England Women’s successful title defence of the UEFA Women’s Euro, which saw the Lionesses become the first senior team to win a major title on foreign soil.

Golf’s Team Europe were voted Team of the Year as the category was voted for by the public for the first time.

Athletics’ Armand Duplantis defended his World Sports Star title from 2024 after the Swede won a third pole vault world title, during which he set a new record of 6.3m and marked his fourth world record in 2025 alone as he became the first pole vaulter to win every event he entered in two consecutive years.

Arsenal and France legend, Thierry Henry was awarded Lifetime Achievement after his successful 20-year career between 1994 – 2014 saw him claim three FA Cup and two Premier League titles with Arsenal, plus FIFA World Cup, UEFA Men’s Euro and 2003 Confederations Cup titles for France.

Sergio Aguiar and David Stancombe were declared joint winners of the Helen Rollason after they ran the London Marathon as tributes to their daughters; Alice and Elsie who were killed in the Southport Attacks in July 2024.
