Swansea City have sacked Alan Sheehan as manager following a slump in form.
Sheehan replaced Luke Williams in February 2025 and led the Swans to Championship survival, having previously took interim charge for seven matches from December 2023 – January 2024.
This season saw Sheehan ‘s Swans 12 points from their first eight league matches this season before they won just one of their last seven games to drop from eighth to 18th in the standings.
Swansea’s slump in form also sees them sat seven points above the relegation zone during the last international break of the calendar year, which has led the club to relieve Sheehan of his duties after nine months in charge to give time to find a suitable replacement and get back in the promotion hunt.
Sheehan also led Swansea to the fourth round of this season’s Carabao Cup where they lost 3-1 at home to Manchester City, despite having taken an early lead in that tie.
The 39-year-old Irishman’s latest reign saw him take charge of 32 matches in which he was unbeaten in 22 of those games, having claimed 13 wins, nine draws and ten defeats in all competitions.
Club owners, Brett Cravatt and Jason Cohen praised Sheehan for his work to improve the club despite their decision to sack him due to the loss of form.
“Alan has been instrumental in helping improve the club through two periods of time. Alan has a tireless work ethic, an honest approach and a positive attitude. He has put his full effort into the job on behalf of the club.
“The club would like to place on record its thanks to Alan for all of his hard work during his time at Swansea City. We wish Alan and his family all the best for the future.”
Sheehan’s successor will be announced in due course.
