2025-26 Carabao Cup: Fourth Round – Grimsby vs Brentford

Grimsby seek a giant killing against Brentford in the fourth round of 2025-26 Carabao Cup.

Victory would see Grimsby or Brentford secure a place in the Quarter-Finals of this competition for only the fourth time in their histories.

Team News

Grimsby will be without Cameron Gardner (hamstring) and Doug Tharme (unspecified), but have no fresh injury concerns after their 3-2 defeat at Crewe Alexandra in League Two.

Brentford have no fresh injury concerns to report after their 3-2 Premier League victory at home to Liverpool.

Aaron Hickey (knock), Josh Dasilva (knee) and Antoni Milambo (ACL) remain sidelined.

When is Kick-Off?

Grimsby host Brentford at Blundell Park on Tuesday 28 October at 7:45pm BST, live on Sky Sports+ in the UK.

Stat Attack

  • This is Grimsby’s first League Cup meeting against Brentford.
  • Brentford are visiting Grimsby for the first time in any cup competition.
  • Grimsby won their only previous cup meeting against Brentford, which came in a 2-0 away victory in January 1993 in the third round of 1992-93 FA Cup.
  • Two of Grimsby’s six goals in this season’s edition have been scored by Jaze Kabia.
  • Excluding penalty shootouts, Brentford are yet to lose to a EFL club in 90 minutes in this competition since their promotion to the Premier League in 2021 (W6, D3).

Prediction

Having knocked out Manchester United and Sheffield Wednesday in the last two rounds, Grimsby will feel confident that they can spring a surprise if they play their best football and their late defeat at Crewe will only motivate them further.

I however do think that their upcoming FA Cup tie at home to Ebbsfleet on Saturday might play a part in how they approach this tie in terms of selection, but they do have a great opportunity to reach the Quarter-Finals if take this seriously given that they’re at home.

Brentford however will certainly rotate after their clinical league win over Liverpool but they now need to bring that intensity and superior quality, because this is a winnable game if don’t underestimate Grimsby who can deliver goals but rarely do clean sheets.

Either way, I expect a close battle between both teams but if Brentford don’t downplay Grimsby’s threats then I can see the Bees winning this tie.

Prediction: Grimsby 1-2 Brentford

Result: Grimsby 0-5 Brentford
