Wrexham meet Southampton in a crucial showdown in the race for a Championship Play-Off spot.
Victory will see Wrexham stay sixth but move four points clear of Southampton, whilst Tomas Eckert’s Saints can climb above their hosts into sixth with a win.
Team News
Wrexham have no fresh injury concerns to report but Kieffer Moore and Nathan Broadhead are amongst several players looking for a start, having been named on the bench in their 2-2 draw at West Brom on Good Friday.
Matty James (toe), Liberato Cacace (hamstring) and Ben Sheaf (knee) remain absent.
Southampton will welcome Flynn Downes and Kuruyu Matsuki back into contention after the pair were suspended for their FA Cup Quarter-Final victory over Arsenal.
When is Kick-Off?
Wrexham host Southampton at STOK Racecourse Ground on Tuesday 3 March at 8pm GMT, live on Sky Sports in the UK.
Stat Attack
- Wrexham have won two of five previous league meetings against Southampton (W2, L3).
- Southampton have won one of their two previous league visits to Wrexham (W1, L1), having won 3-1 on Valentine’s Day 1959 then lost 2-1 in April 1960.
- The Saints have never done a league double over Wrexham.
- Nathan Broadhead has scored in three of Wrexham’s last four home matches.
- Southampton are looking to keep three consecutive clean sheets in the league for the first time since December 2023.
Prediction
Having missed a chance to pull a three-point gap on Southampton after they had to fight from two goals down after a lacklustre first half to draw at West Brom, Wrexham now need to put together a stronger and consistent display if they to get a crucial win which would put the last play-off spot in their hands.
Southampton meanwhile produced a brilliant counter-attacking display to beat Arsenal on Saturday evening to go 15 matches unbeaten in all competitions, but they now need to just refocus and produce another strong performance because they can’t afford to lose this if want a play-off spot.
Wrexham though will of had 29 extra hours to prepare for this match and I just think that might just prove the difference but this should be a tough battle for both teams nevertheless.
Prediction: Wrexham 2-1 Southampton
Result: Wrexham 1-5 Southampton
