Aston Martin have announced that Jak Crawford will participate in his maiden F1 Free Practice One session at 2025 Mexico City Grand Prix.
Crawford has been part of Aston Martin’s Young Driver Programme since February 2024 doing extensive simulator work, alongside his F2 commitments where he currently sits second in the standings with two rounds left.
His F2 performances this season included four wins and ultimately led Aston Martin to reward the 20-year-old with his maiden F1 Free Practice One session, which will take place on 24 October as part of the Mexico City GP weekend and see him replace Lance Stroll for the opening practice.
Crawford is “thrilled” to get the FP1 opportunity after his work with the team and is proud that Aston Martin chose to make the announcement in his home state – having moved from Charlotte, North Carolina, to Houston, Texas, as a child.
“I’ve worked closely with the team all year, so to now take the next step and get track time on a Grand Prix weekend is really exciting. Announcing this in Texas, where I’m from, makes it even more special after a busy week with the team and Aramco in Houston.”
Aston Martin CEO and Team Principal, Andy Cowell added that Jak has earned his “opportunity” to participate in a FP1 session.
“It’s fantastic to give Jak the opportunity to take part in FP1 in Mexico. He’s shown real maturity and provided strong technical feedback throughout the year, and these sessions are an important part of how we develop young talent.
“Jak has had a strong season in Formula 2 and has been a key contributor to the development of both the AMR25 and AMR26. This is a great chance for him to continue progressing while helping us gather valuable data.”
