Tottenham Hotspur have signed midfielder, Mohammed Kudus from West Ham in a £55m transfer.
Following weeks of negotiations after an initial bid of £50m from Tottenham was rejected due to Kudus’ £85m release clause in his contract, West Ham eventually accepted a £55m offer for Kudus who had produced five goals and four assists last season in a difficult campaign for the Hammers.
The move means that Kudus has left West Ham having scored 19 goals in 80 appearances after two seasons in East London following his move from Ajax.
Kudus has signed a six-year contract until June 2031 and has become the fifth signing of Thomas Frank’s reign at Spurs, following the arrivals of; Mathys Tel, Luka Vuskovic, Max McFadden and Kota Takai, although Tel had spent the second half of last season on loan from Bayern Munich.
Tottenham have confirmed that Kudus will wear the number 20 shirt this season, with the midfielder having “always wanted to play at the highest level.”
Kudus proceeded to describe the stature of the club and meaning of the move as he added: “How big the club is, the history and the Champions League as well, so it’s a big moment. I’m very happy and can’t wait to start.”
West Ham released a short statement in which they thanked Kudus for his service to the club and wished him well for his future.
“West Ham United would like to thank Mohammed for his service and wish him well for the future.”
Kudus began his senior career with Denmark’s Nordsjælland where he scored 14 goals in 57 appearances across two seasons before he moved to Ajax in July 2020.
Across his time at Ajax, Kudus helped the team to consecutive Eredivisie titles in his first two seasons at the club plus the KNVB Cup in his first season, as he eventually netted 27 goals in 87 appearances prior to his move to West Ham.
Kudus represents Ghana at international level with 12 goals in 42 senior caps for his country since he made his debut in 2019.
