Portugal face a must-win battle against eliminated Belgium in their concluding Group B clash at UEFA Women’s Euro.
Victory will see Portugal advance to the Quarter-Finals as Group B runners-up if they achieve a six-goal swing and Italy lose to Spain.
Belgium can avoid finishing bottom of the group with a win despite having already been eliminated from the tournament.
Team News
Ana Borges is suspended for Portugal following her red card in their 1-1 draw against Italy.
Belgium have no fresh injury concerns to report following their elimination from the tournament with a 6-2 loss to Spain.
When is Kick-Off?
Portugal meet Belgium at Stade de Tourbillon, Sion, Switzerland, on Friday 11 July at 9pm CEST (8pm UK Time), live on BBC iPlayer in the UK.
Stat Attack
- This is Portugal’s first meeting against Belgium at UEFA Women’s Euro Finals.
- Belgium have never met Portugal at any stage of the UEFA Women’s Euro.
- Portugal are winless in their last seven matches in all competitions (D2, L5).
- Belgium have scored two goals in two of their last three matches across all competitions (W1, L2).
Prediction
Still in with a chance at achieving a Quarter-Final spot, Portugal need to play their part just as much as hoping Spain beat Italy heavily because they ideally need to win with a six-goal swing which feels like a difficult ask on current form despite scraping a deserved draw against Italy.
Belgium meanwhile can relax with nothing to play for but they did well to take the fight to Spain who simply had the far superior end product in a defensively shaky game, but if they can tighten up and still bring their attacking edge then this is a chance to avoid finishing bottom.
Portugal however must score first but I just think that Belgium might just have too much if they can frustrate the Portuguese and nick the first goal.
Prediction: Portugal 1-2 Belgium
Result: Portugal 1-2 Belgium
