Midfielder, Sam Field has signed a new contract at QPR.
Field initially joined QPR on loan from West Bromwich Albion in February 2021 and has gone on to score 12 goals in 179 appearances.
Explaining his decision to sign another new contract just 15 months after his previous extension, Field was “delighted” that QPR came to him with the contract offer which he found appreciative and showed how valued he is to the club.
“It’s been great for my development so I’m looking forward to repaying that.”
Field proceeded to speak of his ambitions for next season and desire for more responsibilities.
“I want to step into more of a leadership role, which I think I’m doing, and I’m enjoying that,” commented Field on his improving role as a leader.
“I enjoy trying to help. I’m deemed an older player now, which is mental for me still, but it’s nice to take that responsibility and try to help other lads and recognize it’s not just about me, it’s about everyone else.
“If I can get a couple more percent out of everyone else, that helps me, that helps the team, it helps everyone.”
Reflective of his progress, Field is under no illusion that he still has plenty of skills to improve next season.
“I think I’ve progressed a lot – I’ve still got a hell of a lot to work on, I’m not going to deny that, but it excites me what I’ve done, and it excites me what I can hopefully go on to achieve.”
The 27-year-old also spoke of his happiness to have a connection between players and fans to make Loftus Road a daunting away visit for opposing teams.
“It’s nice to have such a good connection, and it’s not just me, it’s everyone; we want that connection between all players and fans, and when it’s like that we get Loftus Road rocking, and then it’s horrible for teams to come and play against.”
QPR CEO, Christian Nourry added that he is “excited” to retain Field who he considers to be a “key” player within the squad.
“He is an ambitious man who is rapidly developing leadership skills which are essential for our playing group.
“The versatility that he showed last campaign – sometimes in his previously more common #6 position, but increasingly as an #8 alongside Jonathan Varane and even against Oxford in the #10 – is a vital quality and demonstrated the range of his abilities in midfield.”
