Villa Sign Garnacho on Loan from Chelsea

Aston Villa have signed winger, Alejandro Garnacho from Chelsea on a season-long loan. 

Garnacho’s move to Villa comes after a difficult debut season at Chelsea in which he produced eight goals and four assists in 43 appearances, having made the move to the Blues from Manchester United in August 2025.

Chelsea consequently decided to off-load Garnacho to Villa on an initial season-long loan following the arrival of Morgan Rogers in a £117m transfer from the West-Midlands club, which left the Argentinean unlikely to be part of new Head Coach – Xabi Alonso’s plans this season.

There is also a mandatory buy clause reported to be £43m included in the loan deal which would be activated if performance clauses are met, with Garnacho having pre-agreed a four-year contract at Villa Park until June 2031 if the clause is activated next summer.

Man Utd will also receive a £4.3m fee in the event that Villa do indeed sign Garnacho on a permanent transfer, due to having inserted a 10% sell-on clause in his move to Chelsea last summer.

Manager, Unai Emery has welcomed Garnacho’s arrival given his quality, with the midfielder handed the number 17 shirt.

“We are delighted with Alejandro. He is so talented, young and he showed us his wish to help our project. We are really happy.”

Garnacho began his career in the youth academies of Getafe then Atletico Madrid before he moved to Utd in 2020, where he broke through into the senior team in early 2022 and made his senior debut as a substitute in a 1-1 draw against Chelsea in late April that year.

He subsequently went on to deliver 26 goals and 22 assists in 144 total appearances across four seasons for the Red Devils, during which he helped them win the 2022-23 EFL Cup then the 2023-24 FA Cup, in which he opened the scoring in the final of their latter success against Manchester City.

The 22-year-old also represents Argentina at international level, of which he has made eight senior appearances for his national team without scoring and was part of their 2024 Copa America title-winning squad.
