Swansea will sign defender, Cameron Burgess on 1 July 2025 on a free transfer from Ipswich.

Burgess’ contract at Ipswich expires on 30 June and after discussions between club and player, Burgess opted not to sign a new contract and instead move to Ipswich’s Championship rivals, Swansea on a three-year contract until June 2028.

Swansea Head Coach, Alan Sheehan is “delighted” to sign the Australia international who had helped Ipswich to consecutive promotions in 2022-23 and 23-24 seasons across League One and Championship, before the Tractor Boys were relegated after one season back in the Premier League last season.

Sheehan also spoke of the experience that Burgess will bring as he added: “He is an experienced and consistent performer that has seen him rise up through the divisions in the last few years and become a full international.

“During our conversations Cameron really bought in to what we are trying to do at Swansea and I believe he will be a great addition for us on and off the pitch driving standards throughout the club, and we look forward to getting to work with him.”

Swansea’s Director of Football, Richard Montague is “very pleased to have been able to add a player of Cameron’s pedigree and experience to our squad ahead of the new season.”

Montague also pointed to the positivity of Burgess bring top-flight experience to the team after they fought off competition for his signature.

“To bring in a player who has recently played Premier League football and been part of a successful period at his previous club is very positive.

“There was considerable interest in Cameron from a number of clubs, and we are delighted he felt that Swansea City was the right choice for him.”

Ipswich issued a short statement thanking Burgess “for his contribution” with five goals in 127 appearances across four seasons.
