MP Motorsport have announced that Richard Verschoor has replaced Dennis Hauger in their F2 line-up with immediate effect.

Hauger currently lies ninth in the F2 standings with one victory – which came in the Saudi Arabian Sprint, but has chosen to leave with two rounds left to focus on his move to Indy NXT in 2025.

The Norwegian consequently has left F2 with five wins and eight further podium finishes, plus two pole positions in three seasons after he graduated to the series in 2022 as the 2021 F3 champion.

MP Motorsport has subsequently called upon Trident’s Richard Verschoor to replace Hauger for the last two rounds of the season in Qatar and Abu Dhabi, with Verschoor also confirmed for next season.

MP Motorsport also wished Hauger well for the future as they thanked him for giving ‘time and dedication’ across the last two seasons, following his move from PREMA at the end of the 2022 campaign.

“Signing up with MP for more Formula 2 feels like coming home”, commented Verschoor. “I spent half of my entire racing career with MP, so it means a lot to me that we are able to move forward together for 2025 while also adding the two final 2024 rounds at Losail and Yas Marina.

“It’s been a partnership that has led to success in Formula 4, Formula 3 and Formula 2, including that legendary victory at Macau. I can’t wait to travel to Qatar and go back to working with the team once again.”

MP Motorsport Team Principal, Sander Dorsman is “extremely happy” to bring Verschoor back to the team, and begin preparations for next season.

“I’m extremely happy to welcome back Richard for another season in Formula 2. We have celebrated many wins together, so it’s a true privilege to tap into his wealth of Formula 2 knowledge as we head towards a new season.

“Richard returning to the MP fold is testament to the way we go racing as a family, and he has always fitted right in.

“Meanwhile, I would like to thank Dennis for his huge contribution to the team in the past two F2 seasons. Three wins, nine podiums and two poles is no mean feat, and I am certain that he will take his career to a new level in North America.”

Trident mutually agreed to let Verschoor return to MP Motorsport, of whom he drove for in his first F2 season in 2021, before he enjoyed two spells at Trident albeit split by a year at Van Amersfoort Racing in 2023.

During his two seasons at Trident, Verschoor led the team to victory in the 2022 Bahrain Sprint and 2024 Azerbaijan Feature Race.

Trident’s Team Principal, Giacomo Ricci described their time with Verschoor as “intense and challenging” in terms of results and luck, but has vowed to remember the 23 year-old for his personality on and off track.

“We will remember Richard for his speed on the track, his commitment, and his talent.

“He is a racer who has certainly left his mark on the team. Richard brought a significant wealth of experience, working methodology, and professionalism.

“Together, we achieved two victories and numerous podiums. The journey has been dotted with numerous moments of absolute competitiveness on the track, which we have sometimes failed to materialize.

“We wish Richard the highest satisfaction, which he certainly deserves.”

Verschoor hailed his two seasons with Trident as a “piece of history” that he won’t forget, as he penned a poignant farewell message to the team.

“This year has been a complicated season, marked by technical problems, with ups and downs that determine a ranking that does not reflect our value, which is undoubtedly higher than what the numbers say.

“The road traveled with Trident Motorsport contains podiums and victories, but also some setbacks and disappointments. We experienced strong emotions together, memories that I will always carry with me.

“However, sometimes, things don’t go as we would like, and now our paths diverge. Looking back, I take with me many positive things.  I wish the team and its management a future full of success!”
