Brentford have signed defender, Sepp van den Berg from Liverpool for £25m.
This move ends Van den Berg’s five-year spell at Liverpool where he made just four appearances, amidst loan spells at Preston, Schalke 04 and Mainz 05.
Thomas Frank’s Bees will pay an initial £20m fee but will then pay up to £5m in add-ons, taking the total fee to £25m for the 22 year-old who has signed a five-year contract until June 2029.
“I’m very pleased that we have managed to sign Sepp,” commented Head Coach, Thomas Frank who believes that the youngster will be “… a great signing for the club and the team.”
“Sepp is a centre-back with a good level and he has the potential to develop even further.
“He fits our culture and the way we want to play: he is quick, he reads the game well and is composed on the ball in the build-up and in the decisive defending actions.
“Sepp is a great character, and I am convinced that he will fit in well with the group and help us to push forward.”
Van den Berg began his career at PEC Zwolle where he made 23 appearances before he moved to Liverpool in June 2019, where he only managed four appearances across FA Cup and League Cup in 2019-20 season.
He spent the next two seasons on loan to Preston where he scored twice in 66 senior appearances, before he managed four goals in 44 total appearances on loan to Schalke 04 then Mainz 05 in last two seasons.
