2024-25 Sky Bet Championship: Week Three – Friday

Sheffield Wednesday host Leeds United in a Yorkshire derby in the Championship.

Victory would see Sheffield Wednesday go fourth in the table, whilst Leeds likewise can go fourth with a win ahead of Saturday’s action.

Team News

Sheffield Wednesday have no fresh injury issues after their 4-0 loss at Sunderland last weekend.

Ben Hamer (hand), Nathaniel Chalobah and Akin Famewo (both unspecified) remain sidelined.

Leeds could be without defender, Maximilian Wober due to a minor calf injury.

When is Kick-Off?

Sheffield Wednesday host Leeds at Hillsborough on Friday 23 August at 8pm BST, live on Sky Sports in the UK.

Stat Attack

  • Sheffield Wednesday have won one of their last six meetings against Leeds (W1, D3, L2).
  • Leeds have lost one of their last five visits to Sheffield Wednesday (W2, D2, L1).
  • Both teams have scored in just one of their last five clashes at Hillsborough.
  • Sheffield Wednesday are unbeaten in their last five home matches (W2, D3).
  • Leeds are looking to avoid a second consecutive season with no wins in their opening three matches.

Prediction

After two contrastable 4-0 results in their opening two league matches, Sheffield Wednesday certainly need to deliver a response to their defensive mess at Sunderland where their tactics simply backfired.

Leeds meanwhile will be glad to have kept a clean sheet at West Brom in a game which was evenly matched, yet lacked much quality so more improvement is needed if they’re to get a first win of the season.

Danny Rohl’s Owls though will be keen to produce a reaction at home and if they can sort out their tactics, they certainly can trouble Leeds who are certainly missing some quality players who left this summer.

A draw therefore might feel like a fair outcome if both teams can bounce back from last weekend.

Prediction: Sheffield Wednesday 1-1 Leeds

Result: Sheffield Wednesday 0-2 Leeds
