Charlton Athletic have signed defender, Billy Koumetio from Dundee for an undisclosed fee.
Koumetio’s arrival follows the departure of Macaulay Gillesphey to Bradford City and marks a return to English Football for the Frenchman, who previously spent six years at Liverpool between 2018-24 and made a single loan appearance at Blackburn Rovers in second half of 2023-24 season.
Upon completing his transfer to the Addicks after two years at Dundee where he scored one goal in 44 appearances, Koumetio told cafc.co.uk that he is happy to join the South-East London club and play under manager, Nathan Jones.
“I’m very happy about the move here. The manager spoke to me about the vision that he has for the club and for the players as well. He spoke to me about how he wants me and the team to play, how I can adapt and how all those things will help me become a better person and a better player.
“When he spoke to me about the project he has for me, it was quite convincing. From that day when I spoke to him, I realised this was the best move I could make for my career.”
Jones added that he is “delighted” to sign Koumetio after a period of pursuing their interest in him and believes that he can add athleticism to the defence.
“We’re really pleased and he fits the bill in everything that we want here. He’s an excellent size, he’s super athletic and technically very good having obviously had a real good move to Liverpool.
“He then had to find home a little bit, so he did that at Dundee and then we felt that we were the next step in his progression. He can add real competition, strength and a different dynamic to our defensive unit, so we’re delighted to have him and I’m sure he’ll be a fixture for us.”
