West Ham have signed midfielder, Guido Rodriguez on a free transfer.
Rodriguez’s move comes after four-and-a-half at Real Betis where he scored nine goals and contributed three assists in 173 appearances.
The Argentinean however left the club upon expiry of his contract in June and has now signed a two-year contract until June 2026.
Upon confirmation of his contract, Rodriguez described the chance to play Premier League football as “every footballer’s dream”, especially for a “historic” team like West Ham.
Rodriguez also pledged to try and help the Hammers fight for success and trophies, whilst developing his “physical” game to suit English Football.
“I will help the team in any way I can. I will bring experience to the team, and though I’m aware the Premier League is very physical, I’m ready to put the work in to make sure I’m up to the task.
“What I can say to the fans is that I will give them everything. I’m very motivated, and I think together with the supporters we can achieve many good things. I just can’t wait to get going now!”
West Ham’s Technical Director, Tim Steidten added that Rodriguez will be “a real asset” to the team, due to his “intelligence in and out of possession” as a defensive midfielder.
Rodriguez began his career in Argentina with River Plate where he scored one goal in 18 appearances and helped them to 2014 Copa Sudamericana and 2015 Copa Libertadores, before he spent 2016 on loan at Defensa y Justicia which yielded 16 appearances.
The now 30 year-old then spent 2016-17 season at Tijuana where he scored five goals in 42 appearances, followed by a move to América which saw him net 12 goals in 123 appearances and win Liga MX plus Copa MX titles.
January 2020 saw Rodriguez join Betis and during his time at the club, he was part of their Copa del Rey title-winning squad in 2021-22 season.
Rodriguez represents Argentina internationally following his senior debut in June 2017 and has scored one goal in 30 appearances, during which he was part of their 2022 FIFA World Cup title-winning team.
The Argentinean has also won Copa America in 2021 and 2024 plus 2022 Finalissima with Argentina.
