Forward, Sam Nombe has rejoined MK Dons for an undisclosed transfer fee from Rotherham.
Nombe previously graduated through MK Dons academy into the first team squad in August 2017 as a substitute in a 1-0 first-round away victory at Forest Green Rovers in that season’s EFL Cup.
He went on to score six goals in 46 appearances across four seasons, during which he spent time on loan at Oxford City, Maidenhead United and Luton Town – with 10 goals scored in 49 appearances across his three loan clubs, of which nine goals were netted at Oxford City.
Nombe’s return though comes after a successful three-season spell at Rotherham with 31 goals in 122 appearances, of which 28 of his total goals for the Millers came in the last two seasons combined.
In-between his stints at MK Dons and Rotherham, the now 27-year-old scored 27 goals in 85 appearances at Exeter City between July 2021 – late August 2023.
Head Coach, Paul Warne has welcomed Nombe’s return as he spoke of the forward’s relentless ability to trouble opposing defences, with details of Nombe’s contract length undisclosed.
“Sam is a forward I’ve always liked who doesn’t give a moment’s peace to the opposition’s back line.
“He thrives off crosses which I like my team to excel at. He’s physical, confident and has consistently scored goals at this level.
“His work rate for the team is also to be applauded. He improves a very strong department of our squad.”
Warne also iterated his belief that Nombe has more developmental growth in him and singled him out as a player who adds quality and experience to the squad.
“I still believe there is more to come from Sam with the supply and support he will get from this team and staff.
“It was one of the easiest negotiations I’ve ever done with a player as his heart was set on coming back to the city to play for this great club.
“We have tried to sign players this summer with patience but quality, ones who improve the squad and have excelled at the level, Sam is the definition of that.”
