Millwall have signed forward, Macaulay Langstaff from Notts County for an undisclosed fee.

The move sees Langstaff jump two divisions from League Two to the Championship with Millwall, amidst much interest across EFL clubs.

In two seasons at Notts County, Langstaff helped the club claim promotion from the National League via Play-Offs in 2022-23 season with 42 goals in 48 appearance, which he followed up with 29 goals in 49 appearances last season as County consolidated their fourth-tier status.

Addressing the decision to let Langstaff leave for Millwall, Notts County’s Board of Directors paid tribute to the 27 year-old Stockton-born forward for his achievements at the club – which included League Two Golden Boot and named in League Two’s Team of the Season.

“We’re incredibly proud of what Macaulay has achieved in his time at Meadow Lane and wish him every success as he commences this exciting new chapter in his career.

“While we knew we were signing an excellent player, we could never have envisaged his achievements reaching the heights they have done over the last two years.

“Throughout that time, and despite his numerous and well-publicised successes, Macaulay has conducted himself with the utmost professionalism and maintained fantastic relationships with everyone at the club thanks to his infectious and humble personality.”

The club also urged fans to support Langstaff’s move as they continued: “He thoroughly deserves this opportunity and has our utmost support moving forward.

“While we share our fans’ disappointment that we won’t see Macaulay in the black and white next season, we’d like to reassure them that this deal represents excellent value for the club – and that we have, of course, been factoring his potential departure into our plans as we look to build a highly-competitive squad this summer.

“We should also all take collective pride in the part we’ve played in giving Macaulay the platform to step out of non-league and move into the second tier – a trajectory that only reflects well on us as a club.”

Langstaff began his career as part of Middlesbrough’s Youth Academy and went on to play for Boro Rangers and his hometown club, Stockton Town, followed by a spell at Billingham Synthonia prior to the first of two stints at Gateshead from 2017-18.

During his first spell at the Heed, he made five appearances before he went on loan to Synthonia then Blyth Spartans, before he spent two years at York City where he netted 11 goals in 60 appearances amidst a loan period at Bradford Park Avenue.

Langstaff re-joined Gateshead in 2020 and helped them gain promotion to the National League as National League North Champions in 2021-22 season, before he was signed by Notts County and has now left Meadow Lane with 71 goals in 97 appearances.
