2023-24 Premier League: Week 34 – Everton vs Liverpool

Everton host Liverpool at Goodison Park in a blockbuster Merseyside derby, with implications at opposite ends of the Premier League table.

Everton will stay 16th regardless of the result but a win would put them eight points clear of the drop, whilst Liverpool could go top with a win if Arsenal fail to win on Tuesday evening

Beto is ruled out for Everton after he suffered a concussion during their win over Nottingham Forest.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin (knee) is a doubt but Seamus Coleman (groin), Nathan Patterson (hamstring), Lewis Dobbin (ankle) and Dele Alli (hip) remain absent.

Liverpool will be without Diogo Jota after he suffered a muscle injury during their win at Fulham.

Conor Bradley (ankle), Ben Doak (knee), Joel Matip (ACL) and Thiago Alcantara (muscle) remain absent.

When is Kick-Off?

Everton host Liverpool at Goodison Park on Wednesday 24 April at 8pm BST, live on Sky Sports in the UK.

Stat Attack

  • Everton are winless in their last five Merseyside derbies against Liverpool (D1, L4).
  • Liverpool are unbeaten in their last 12 league visits to Everton (W3, D9).
  • Four of the last six Merseyside derbies to be played at Everton finished in 0-0 draws.
  • James Tarkowski has made more clearances than any other Everton player this season (150).
  • No Premier League player coming into this round of rearranged games has created more shots than Liverpool’s Darwin Nunez (103).

Prediction

Now five points above the relegation zone, Everton can afford to relax slightly coming into this derby because they’re underdogs anyway here and to me, their priority has to be that home game against Brentford on Saturday which is more winnable.

Sean Dyche’s Toffees though were clinical in their win over Forest with a solid all-round performance but they will need to be even sharper here, especially at the back if want to deal with Liverpool’s intensity.

Liverpool meanwhile looked back to their attacking best at Fulham with a dominant display even if patience and composure was needed to get the win, whilst their defence was punished for a momentary slip in focus which highlights one weakness that Everton can target if clinical.

I however can see this being a routine win for Jurgen Klopp’s Reds if they play like they did on Sunday albeit with more focused defending, as Everton will surely feel that their focus has to be on the weekend’s clash against Brentford.

Prediction: Everton 0-2 Liverpool

Result: Everton 2-0 Liverpool
