Brighton & Hove Albion host Tottenham Hotspur at AMEX Stadium in a difficult Premier League contest.
Victory would see Brighton move up to seventh if West Ham lose at Arsenal in the late kick-off, whilst Tottenham could go third if can win by a three-goal margin or higher.
Team News
Kaoru Mitoma is a doubt for Brighton after he suffered an ankle injury during their 1-1 draw at Crystal Palace.
Tariq Lamptey, Pervis Estupinan, Ansu Fati (all muscle), Adam Webster (knock), Joel Veltman, Solly March and Julio Enciso (all knee) remain absent.
Tottenham could be without Cristian Romero after he suffered a hamstring injury during their win over Everton.
Destiny Udogie (suspension) and Richarlison (back) could feature but Yves Bissouma is serving the second of his three-match ban.
Ryan Sessegnon, Mickey van de Ven (both hamstring), Manor Solomon (knee), Ivan Perisic (ACL), Rodrigo Bentancur, James Maddison and Alfie Whiteman (all ankle) remain ruled out.
When is Kick-Off?
Brighton host Tottenham in a 7:30pm GMT kick-off at AMEX Stadium on Thursday 28 December, live on Amazon Prime in the UK.
Stat Attack
- Brighton have won three of their last 10 league meetings against Tottenham (W3, L7).
- Tottenham have claimed 10 points from their six previous Premier League visits to Brighton (W3, D1, L2).
- Two of Brighton’s last three meetings against Tottenham have ended in 1-0 result to the team playing away, except for a 2-1 home win for Spurs in April 2023.
- Coming into this matchweek, no Brighton player has made more clearances than Jan Paul van Hecke (37).
- Richarlison has scored four goals in his last three appearances for Tottenham (W3).
Prediction
Dspite having the best festive schedule with three fixtures within 12 days, Brighton will need to show more composure in their end product because they were otherwise excellent in their draw at Palace – aside from a spell of late first-half pressure where a defensive error was punished.
Tottenham meanwhile were absolutely clinical in their win over Everton with two well-executed first half goals, amidst some strong if at times sloppy defending which was only punished once but I do expect Spurs to bring more fight here against a more wobbly defence.
Fans surely won’t expect a goalless draw given the attacking quality within both teams and I can’t see that happening neither, but I do expect this to be close and a draw might be a fair result because Brighton should have more defensive resilience than Everton.
Prediction: Brighton 1-1 Tottenham
Result: Brighton 4-2 Tottenham
