2023-24 Premier League: Week 15 – Brighton vs Brentford

Brighton & Hove Albion meet Brentford at the AMEX Stadium in a mid-table Premier League encounter.

Victory could see Brighton go seventh if Manchester United lose elsewhere, whilst Brentford can go eighth with a win if Chelsea lose at Man Utd.

Brighton have no fresh injury concerns to report after their defeat at Chelsea with Joao Pedro looking to start.

Lewis Dunk and Mahmoud Dahoud are serving the last match of two and three-match bans respectively.

Tariq Lamptey, Pervis Estupinan, Ansu Fati, Danny Welbeck (all muscle), Adam Webster (knock), Solly March and Julio Enciso (both knee) remain absent.

Brentford could be without defender, Kristoffer Ajer after he suffered a foot injury during their win over Luton.

Christian Norgaard is suspended after he picked up his fifth booking of the season last time out.

Josh Dasilva (hamstring), Mathias Jensen (adductor) and Mikkel Damsgaard (knee) won’t be rushed back until declared match fit by club doctors.

Rico Henry (knee), Nathan Collins (ankle), Aaron Hickey (hamstring), Kevin Schade (adductor) and Ivan Toney (suspension) remain absent.

When is Kick-Off?

Brighton host Brentford in a 7:30pm GMT kick-off at AMEX Stadium on Wednesday 6 December, live on Amazon Prime in the UK.

Stat Attack

  • Brighton have lost one of their four previous Premier League meetings against Brentford (W2, D1, L1).
  • Brentford are yet to win away at Brighton in the Premier League (D1, L1).
  • Suspended Brentford striker, Ivan Toney scored three goals against Brighton last season (W1, D1).
  • Brighton have scored first in four of their last five home matches in the league, except for a 3-1 comeback win against Bournemouth in September 2023.
  • Ethan Pinnock has played more passes than any other Brentford player this season, with 783 passes in 14 league appearances.

Prediction

With Dunk abseent in defence, Brighton will be disappointed to have not got a draw at Chelsea but they were really outplayed defensively especially in the first half, which proved costly because they certainly improved in the second half but this is a chance to bounce back quickly.

Brentford meanwhile dominated Luton with a clinical second-half display after a lacklustre first-half quality wise, but this will certainly pose a tougher test especially without Norgaard’s presence in midfield if Jensen isn’t fit for selection.

Both teams however have demonstrated that they can be difficult to beat defensively, so I do expect this game to be quite scrappy but Brighton’s defence can’t afford another sloppy start, otherwise I can see Thomas Frank’s Bees nicking a win if not a draw.

Prediction: Brighton 1-1 Brentford

Result: Brighton 2-1 Brentford
