Chesterfield look to claim another League One scalp as Leyton Orient visit the SMH Group Stadium in the Second Round of 2023-24 FA Cup.
Victory would see Chesterfield reach the Third Round for a third consecutive season, whilst Leyton Orient look to reach the Third Round for the second time in three seasons.
Team News
Defender, Tyrone Williams is Chesterfield’s only definite absentee as he continues his recovery from a thigh injury.
Leyton Orient will be without midfielder, Jordan Graham as he continues to recover from knee surgery in early November.
When is Kick-Off?
Chesterfield host Leyton Orient at SMH Group Stadium in a 2pm GMT kick-off on Sunday 3 December, untelevised live in the UK.
Stat Attack
- Chesterfield have won just one of five previous FA Cup matches against Leyton Orient (W1, D2, L2), although they had only met in three previous ties of which two ties went to a replay.
- Leyton Orient have won two of three previous FA Cup visits to Chesterfield (W2, L1).
- Of their two previous FA Cup ties which went to a replay, the original matches finished goalless.
- Tom Naylor has scored in each of Chesterfield’s two FA Cup ties this season (W2), with the Spirites keeping clean sheets on both occasions.
- Orient have failed to win any of their last nine FA Cup matches on the road (D1, L8), since they won 4-2 at Alfreton Town in December 2012.
Prediction
Sat comfortably top of the National League with a 11-point lead, Chesterfield can afford to focus fully on this game especially after clinically defeating Portsmouth in the First Round with a disciplined yet efficient attacking performance.
Leyton Orient meanwhile have fond memories of previous FA Cup clashes against Chesterfield but are currently winless in eight of their last nine matches, during which they were on the road on just three occasions so this might be a tough test for them if can’t settle quickly.
Chesterfield though can’t be underestimated given their consistency and form this season so I do expect this game to be quite close, but it wouldn’t be a surprise if Orient can scrape a draw to get this tie back home and do the job in East London.
Prediction: Chesterfield 1-1 Leyton Orient
Result: Chesterfield 1-0 Leyton Orient
