2023-24 Sky Bet Championship: Week Three – Sunday

Norwich City host Millwall at Carrow Road in the concluding tie of matchweek three in 2023-24 Sky Bet Championship.

Victory would see David Wagner’s Canaries climb as high as third in the table, whilst Millwall can go sixth with a win by two goals or more.

Onel Hernandez is ruled out for Norwich after he suffered a broken hand in training.

New signing, George Long is in contention to make his debut against his former team, having joined the Canaries on a free transfer from Millwall.

Jacob Sørensen (pelvis), Borja Sainz and Jonathan Tomkinson (both ankle) remain absent.

Millwall will hand Casper De Norre and Romain Esse late fitness tests after both players picked up knocks in last weekend’s loss to Bristol City.

George Honeyman (quad) remains absent.

When is Kick-Off?

Norwich host Millwall at Carrow Road in a 12pm BST kick-off on Sunday 20 August, live on Sky Sports in UK.

Stat Attack

  • Norwich have lost just one of their last 12 meetings against Millwall (W8, D3, L1).
  • Millwall have failed to win in any of their last 19 league visits to Norwich (D7, L12).
  • Norwich have kept clean sheets in just two of their last six home meetings against Millwall.
  • Both of Jonathan Rowe’s two league goals for Norwich this season were scored in first-half injury time (W1, D1).
  • Each of Millwall’s two league matches so far this season have ended in 1-0 results (W1, L1), winning at Middlesbrough followed by a home loss to Bristol City.

Prediction

After snatching a last-gasp winner at QPR in their rearranged First Round tie in this season’s Carabao Cup in midweek, Norwich now need to take that solid defensive performance and apply that here because their defending at Southampton last weekend was sloppy despite their ruthless attack.

Millwall meanwhile need to rediscover their spark and energy from their opening win at Middlesbrough because they were flat last weekend against Bristol City, which will only motivate them to come out and try to reduce a reaction with more intensity and pressing.

Carrow Road though has been a difficult hoodoo for the Lions but on a day when the Lionesses could roar to success on the world stage, you have to wonder if it would be poetic if Millwall find their Carrow Road roar after almost two decades of bad luck.

Norwich’s attack however is strong so I do expect a tough contest and a draw might well be a fair result if both teams play their best football.

Prediction: Norwich 1-1 Millwall

Result: Norwich 3-1 Millwall
