Leicester City have signed midfielder, Harry Winks from Tottenham Hotspur for an undisclosed fee.
Winks spent last season on loan at Italy’s Sampdoria where he failed to score in 20 appearances after falling out of favour under Antonio Conte at Tottenham, but has now opted to make a permanent move away from North London.
The 27 year-old consequently leaves Spurs having scored five goals in 205 appearances, having made his debut as a substitute in a 1-0 home win over FK Partizan in the Group Stage of 2014-15 UEFA Europa League.
Winks has signed a three-year contract at Leicester until June 2027.
Speaking to LCFC TV about his move to Leicester, Winks commented: “I’m delighted. I’m really excited for the challenge ahead. It’s an amazing club with great history and the facilities are incredible. I’m just so happy to be here and ready to get going.
“I’m looking forward to getting started, to have a full pre-season with the team and come here early to get ready for the games coming up. It’s going to be an important few weeks to get everyone ready and to push myself getting fit.”
On the opportunity to make a fresh start, Winks added: “I’m also looking forward to a new challenge and to challenge myself. Coming to a club like Leicester is the perfect chance to do that.”
Winks represents England in international football where he has scored one goal in 10 appearances, but has failed to feature for the Three Lions since 2020.
Tottenham issued the following brief statement on Winks’ departure for the Championship-bound Foxes: “We wish Harry all the best for the future.”
Winks could make his debut for Leicester at home to Coventry City at King Power Stadium on Sunday 6 August, in a 12pm BST kick-off live on Sky Sports, which would mark the first time that he has played outside of a top-flight division in his career.
