Neil Warnock has signed a new one-year contract to remain as Huddersfield Town manager for 2023-24 season.

Warnock returned to the club in mid February on a short-term contract until the end of last season, during which he steered the club to Championship safety – having found the Terriers sat in the relegation zone when he took charge.

Huddersfield’s board have consequently swooped to secure the 74 year-old to a new one-year contract, despite Warnock having retired from football management in April 2022 prior to his planned temporary return with the Terriers.

Speaking about his decision to stay on for one more season, Warnock iterated that to leave and let someone else come in as a manager would “be a difficult job”, after building a run of one defeat in their last 10 matches.

Warnock will again be joined by his Assistant Manager, Ronnie Jepson, with both manager and assistant vowing “to try and do the best we can with our squad that we can hopefully make one or two additions too.”

On his ambitions for the new season, Warnock teased: “We’re quietly confident – I know what the Club is all about and I have to say, the response I got after those last two games is something I’ve never experienced in my whole life.

“This is now a chance for me to put something back into the Club and give us some stability during this transitional period.”

Warnock even added that he had asked his wife – Sharon if he could stay for the new season, as he explained: “Once I knew that Sharon was okay with me continuing, I’ve been fully concentrating on knuckling down to do the best we can in trying to get this great Club up the league.”

Newly-appointed Chief Executive Officer, Jake Edwards praised Warnock and Jepson for their “incredible knowledge and skill”, which proved key to guiding the club to safety whilst ensuring a “valuable” yet “amazing connection” with supporters.

Edwards added that Warnock is “determined” to build upon the positives achieved last season, whilst providing “great experience and stability on the football side” as the club prepares for a planned change of ownership.
