Preston North End have signed defender, Calvin Ramsay on a season-long loan from Liverpool.

Ramsay joined Liverpool from Aberdeen in June 2022 but various injuries limited him to just two senior appearances this season, in which he made his debut as a substitute in a 2-0 home win against Napoli in the Group Stage of the UEFA Champions League in November 2022.

His other first-team appearance came a week later in a 3-2 victory on penalties following a goalless draw at home to Derby County in the Third Round of the Carabao Cup, during which he played the entire match but wasn’t involved in the penalty shootout.

Speaking about his decision to join Preston on loan, Ramsay commented: “I’m delighted to join Preston North End. The Championship is a top league as everyone knows and the main thing for me is trying to get game time, and I’m going to be able to do that at a good club. I can’t wait to get started.”

The 19 year-old proceeded to add: “I’m happy to be getting the opportunity to get regular game time in a good league, which is important for me. I just need to work hard and try to play as many games as I can.”

Ramsay admitted that various clubs were keen to sign him but following discussions with Preston manager – Ryan Lowe, he felt that he believes that his playing style of “getting at people” suited their style of  “attacking football, keep the ball and get forward.”

Lowe meanwhile is “pleased” to secure Ramsay on a season-long loan and revealed that Ramsay’s arrival fills a desire of Lowe’s to provide “fantastic” Brad Potts with “good competition” on the right flank.

The Preston manager also iterated that the “energetic,” and “dynamic,” movement of Ramsay has created additional tactical options, with the Scotland international also operating at right wing-back.

Lowe though is aware of how much investment Liverpool have put in him so knows that the 19 year-old has serious “quality” within him to develop his game whilst at Deepdale.
