German forward, Kevin Schade has completed a permanent transfer to Brentford from SC Freiburg for a club-record undisclosed transfer fee.
Schade joined the Bees on a half-season loan in January 2023 and went on to create one assist in 19 appearances, which came in a 3-2 win at home to Fulham in March.
Brentford has now activated an option to buy which was agreed as part of his initial loan deal in January, with Schade signing a five-year contract at the club until June 2028.
Brentford’s Director of Football, Phil Giles explained that the move was a formality once the Bees secured their Premier League status for next season, which was amongst various conditions which the West London club had to meet.
Giles added that the club is happy with Schade’s development, as he commented: “We have all been pleased with Kevin’s contribution so far, both on the pitch and his professionalism off it, so to have him with us now until 2028 is fantastic for the club.
“We all hope both Kevin and Brentford can make further progress from here and look forward to the challenge.”
Freiburg meanwhile issued the following statement: “The 21-year-old academy product joined the Premier League side on loan in January 2023 and has now made the move permanent. SC Freiburg would like to wish Kevin Schade all the best for his future.”
Schade also proceeded to make his international debut for Germany during his loan spell with Brentford – having been called up in March 2023, with his maiden senior international cap coming in a 2-0 friendly win against Peru as a substitute and played 16 minutes.
He then featured as a substitute in a 3-2 home loss to Belgium three days later, where he only played 11 minutes.
Schade however will feature for Germany Under-21s squad in this summer’s international window, as part of their squad at UEFA Under-21s Euros in which they will face Israel, Czech Republic and England in the Group Stage.
This move means that Schade will be joined by goalkeeper, Mark Flekken at Brentford after the goalkeeper secured a move from Freiburg to the Bees almost a fortnight ago (31 May).
