Newcastle United have signed forward, Yankuba Minteh from Denmark’s Odense Boldklub for an undisclosed fee.
Minteh joins the Magpies from Odense Boldklub (OB) where he has scored four goals and created six assists in 17 senior appearances, having moved from Gambia’s Steve Biko in Summer 2022 to the Danish club initially as part of their youth academy.
Minteh’s transfer will be officially completed on 1 July with the 18 year-old heading straight out on loan to Eredivisie champions, Feyenoord, who could well meet Newcastle in the Group Stages of next season’s UEFA Champions League.
Unlike domestic loan rules, UEFA rules do allow loan signings to play against parent club across UEFA’s three pan-European competitions, meaning that Feyenoord could field Minteh against Newcastle if they so wish.
Minteh described his loan move to Feyenoord as “an honour” and is “grateful for this opportunity” to play for the Dutch champions, whilst vowing to “improve” as a player and achieve his “goals” plus “sporting ambitions.”
Speaking about Minteh’s decision to join the Tyneside-based club, Sporting Director – Dan Ashworth said that he is “very pleased” to sign a player who has “high potential” to be part of Newcastle’s long-term future.
“He has done extremely well in his first full season in Denmark,” continued Ashworth who believes that Minteh “has a promising career ahead of him.”
Ashworth also added that he is “excited” to see how Minteh adapts to bigger competition at Feyenoord, who he described as having “strong development of its own.”
Newcastle’s Sporting Director proceeded to tease their transfer plans for this summer as he iterated that the club has “clear philosophy to invest in emerging talent and we want to provide a player pathway that will help to build and sustain long-term success.”
Feyenoord earlier today signed defender, Antef Tsoungui from Newcastle’s Premier League rivals, Brighton.
