Brentford have signed winger, Kevin Schade on an initial loan from SC Freiburg with £22m obligation to buy option.

Schade joins the Bees on an initial six-month loan from SC Freiburg until end of season with an obligation to buy him in a £22m transfer upon completion of his loan stint, with the German signing a five-year contract until June 2028 once the permanent transfer is officially completed this summer.

Speaking about Schade’s move to Brentford, Manager, Thomas Frank commented that Schade is a “typical” fit for the club as a “young, promising talent” with versatility to “play anywhere across our front three positions.”

On Schade’s best qualities, Frank continued: “He has great pace and is very promising in the way he runs behind defences.

“He is very good aerially, in both boxes, and can develop even more to be a real threat as an offensive option with his head.

“We like the way he presses when the team do not have the ball. He is willing to work very hard for his team.”

Frank also iterated that Schade has “big potential to be a fine goal scorer and it is great to have him at Brentford.”

Schade began his career as part of youth academies at SV Babelsberg, Energie Cottbus and Freiburg, before he eventually graduated into Freiburg’s senior squad in August 2021 where he has gone on to score seven goals in 36 appearances across all competitions.

On the international stage, Schade currently plays for Germany Under-21s where he has scored four goals in five appearances, although he is also eligible to represent Nigeria due to his Nigeria-born father.

Schade will be eligible to make his Brentford debut in Saturday’s FA Cup tie against West Ham at Gtech Community Stadium, with kick-off confirmed for 5:30pm GMT.
