Leicester City striker, Kelechi Iheanacho has apologised to supporters following the club’s relegation to the Championship.

Goals from Harvey Barnes and Wout Faes saw Leicester defeat West Ham 2-1 on the final day of the season, yet Abdoulaye Doucoure’s 57th minute winner for Everton against Bournemouth proved enough to keep Sean Dyche’s Toffees up at the expense of Leicester.

The Foxes consequently will drop down to the second-tier after a nine-year stint in the Premier League, in which they secured a shock league title in the 2015-16 season plus six top-ten finishes.

“I’m so disappointed,” commented a stunned Iheanacho to LCFC TV upon confirmation of the club’s relegation, and proceeded to add: “I have no words. I don’t know what to say.”

Iheanacho soon paid tribute to supporters as he tried to rally the club for a promotion tilt next season, as he continued: “I just say thanks to everyone at the Football Club, the fans and everyone that supported us right from the start to now.

“If life kicks you, you need to stand up and keep going. We’ll try to keep going, stay strong, and hopefully we’ll get back up.”

“It’s a bad time for the Club and for everyone,” added Iheanacho as he iterated that he and his teammates must reset ahead of the new season.

On how the squad must approach the next few weeks mentally, the 26 year-old said: “We can’t go back now, thinking about it. We have to move forward.”

Iheanacho also applauded the fans for their support as he concluded: “The fans were really amazing today. Even at the end, they were clapping and trying to support us. It’s a hard one, going down, so I just want to thank them for all their support and everything they’ve done.

“They supported the Club right from the start. We’ll try our best to come back up.”
