Jurgen Klopp has been appointed as manager of Germany Men’s National Team on a four-year contract until 2030.
Klopp’s appointment marks his return to management after a two-year break following his departure from Liverpool, where he led the Reds to eight titles across seven different competitions during his managerial reign between October 2015 – May 2024:

- 1 x Premier League (2019-20)
- 1 x FIFA Club World Cup (2019)
- 1 x FA Cup (2021-22)
- 1 x FA Community Shield (2022)
Klopp is replacing Julian Nagelsmann whose contract was terminated after a shock Round of 32 stage exit against Paraguay at 2026 FIFA World Cup on penalties.
Following his appointment as manager, Klopp spoke of the pride at taking up the position and the challenge of taking the team into UEFA Euro 2028 and 2030 FIFA World Cup.
“The national team can connect us Germans like hardly anything else. That’s exactly what makes this task so special for me. I am grateful for everything I have experienced and learned in the last year and a half at Red Bull and for the openness that has made this agreement possible in the first place.
“Now I am looking forward to this special task in German football, which we will tackle together with humility and patience: to develop a team that fights for each other, that enjoys football and behind which the people of our country can rally with full conviction.”
DFB President, Bernd Neuendorf added: “Jürgen Klopp stands for passion, credibility and the ability to take people with him like few others. After the resignation of Julian Nagelsmann, he was our unconditionally desired solution for the office of national coach.
“That’s why we have consistently tried to get him. I would like to thank everyone who paved the way for this cooperation, especially Oliver Mintzlaff for the constructive discussions and his cooperative attitude, as well as Aki Watzke for his great support.”
Klopp began his managerial career at Mainz where he oversaw promotion from 2.Bundesliga to Bundesliga with Mainz in the 2003-04 season via a third-placed league finish.
He went on to manage Borussia Dortmund between July 2008 – June 2015, across which he led them to five titles, consisting of; two Bundesliga and DFL-Supercup titles apiece plus 2011-12 DFB-Pokal.
The 59-year-old German is now taking his first step into international football management, having spent the last 19 months as Head of Global Football at Red Bull, where he oversaw their various football clubs which included;
- RB Salzburg (Austria)
- FC Liefering (Austria)
- Red Bull Bragantino (Brazil)
- RB Leipzig (Germany)
- RB Omiya Ardija (Japan)
- New York Red Bulls (USA)
Klopp was also involved with Paris FC where Red Bull are a minority shareholder, but had no involvement at Leeds United due to his respect for Liverpool which saw him rule out working with any other English club within any capacity.
