2022-23 Sky Bet Championship: Week 45 – Monday

Blackburn Rovers host Luton Town at Ewood Park in a crucial Sky Bet Championship clash.

Victory would see Blackburn climb to seventh and just outside of the play-off spots on goal difference, whilst Luton can seal third with a win no matter what Middlesbrough do in the lunchtime kick-off.

Daniel Ayala is set to return for Blackburn after recovering from a hamstring injury.

Luton will be without Cauley Woodrow after he missed their win against Middlesbrough with a knee injury.

Gabriel Osho (knee), Reece Burke (groin), Dan Potts (hamstring) and Jack Walton (muscle) remain absent.

When is Kick-Off?

Blackburn host Luton at Ewood Park on Bank Holiday Monday 1 May at 5:30pm BST, live on Sky Sports in the UK.

Stat Attack

  • Blackburn have claimed six points from their last five meetings against Luton (W1, D3, L1).
  • Luton are unbeaten in three of their last five visits to Blackburn (W2, D1, L2).
  • Victory would see Luton do the league double against Blackburn for only the second time this century – having last done so in 2019-20 season.
  • Blackburn are looking to avoid eight consecutive league games without victory for the first time since a nine-match winless streak between December 2015 – February 2016.
  • Nine of Carlton Morris’ 20 goals for Luton this season have been scored away from home.

Prediction

With their play-offs hopes now right in the balance, Blackburn realistically need a win to put themselves firmly in the mix heading into a potential winner-takes-all final day trip to Millwall, mainly due to their inferior goal difference.

Jon Dahl Tomasson’s Rovers though must cut out their defensive errors and tidy up their finishing up front, because they were the more efficient attacking team in their defeat against Burnley last week, yet a lack of clinical end product and defensive mistakes cost them.

Luton meanwhile have little to play for other than maintaining momentum heading into the play-offs, but they will take heart from a gutsy fightback to beat Middlesbrough and know that victory would guarantee them third place no matter what.

In fact, I feel like Blackburn just have to go for it here but Luton should have enough in them to snatch a draw given their strong defence.

Prediction: Blackburn 1-1 Luton

Result: Blackburn 1-1 Luton
