2022-23 Premier League: Week 34 – Leicester vs Everton

Leicester City host Everton at King Power Stadium in a blockbuster showdown in the race for Premier League survival.

Leicester and Everton both enter this clash sat in the relegation zone with the Foxes sat one point above the Toffees, with victory set to lift either team up to 16th position and drop Nottingham Forest into the bottom three.

A draw though would see Leicester climb out of the relegation zone and go 16th whilst Everton would remain second-bottom.

Kelechi Iheanacho is ruled out for Leicester after he suffered an adductor injury during their draw at Leeds.

Ricardo Pereira (hamstring), Ryan Bertrand (knee), Jonny Evans, Jannik Vestergaard (both calf) and James Justin (Achilles) remain absent.

Everton have no fresh injury concerns to report following their home defeat to Newcastle in midweek.

Mason Holgate (suspension) and Seamus Coleman (hamstring) could return but Ruben Vinagre (Achilles) and Andros Townsend (knee) remain absent.

When is Kick-Off?

Leicester face Everton at 8pm on Monday 1 May at the King Power Stadium, live on Sky Sports in UK.

Stat Attack

  • Leicester have won just one of their last six meetings against Everton (W1, D2, L3).
  • Everton have won three of their last five visits to Leicester (W3, L2).
  • Three of last four meetings between Leicester and Everton at King Power Stadium have finished in a 2-1 result, with Everton winning two of those three specific matches.
  • Daniel Amartey has made two of Leicester’s three last-man tackles this season, whilst Wilfred Ndidi has made one last-man tackle.
  • Coming into this matchweek, no English goalkeeper has made more saves than Everton’s Jordan Pickford this season (111).

Prediction

As the final month of the season properly kicks into gear, victory is imperative if either team want to significantly boost their survival chances, although Leicester have a slightly easier run-in than Everton which could well prove the difference come the final day.

Leicester though should come into this game buoyant by a strong performance at fellow relegation battlers – Leeds, where they were strong in the attack but just lacked the end product whilst their defence was solid aside from dealing with Sinisterra’s header from a cross.

Everton meanwhile know that defeat here would leave them with a mountain to climb because it is hard to see them getting even one point from their next three games, especially after a defensive implosion against Newcastle in midweek with little quality end product up front.

Fans of both teams also need to step up and play their part in motivating their team whilst on the pitch, Leicester do seem to have more swagger about them despite still being vulnerbale at set pieces so I am backing them to edge this game which should be close if scrappy.

Prediction: Leicester 2-1 Everton

Result: Leicester 2-2 Everton
